The Junior Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for underwriting loans in accordance with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, WSFS Bank policy, and WSFS Mortgage investor guidelines. The Junior Mortgage Underwriter reviews, analyzes, and renders decisions on customer applications for mortgage loans. This role ensures that all mortgage loan requests are underwritten in compliance with current Bank policies as well as federal and state regulations, up to the Mortgage Underwriter’s credit approval authority. Responsibilities include reviewing loan files for completeness, appropriate creditworthiness, and adequate supporting documentation; reviewing financial statements, personal tax returns, and cash flow analyses when applicable; and making credit decisions while properly documenting the loan file and systems with the appropriate information.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage individual daily underwriting pipeline workflow to ensure SLAs are met.
- Remain up to date on all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Remain up to date on all conventional underwriting guidelines.
- Ensure department procedures are kept up to date.
- Handle underwriting questions from internal partners across all departments.
- Ensure the underwriting team maintains acceptable quality control results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have 3 years of Mortgage Underwriting or Processing experience.
- Must have practical knowledge of loan documents and FHLMC/FNMA and portfolio lending practices.
- Must have knowledge of State and Federal agency regulatory policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Desktop Underwriter and Loan Prospector.
- Knowledge of income calculations for all income sources.
- Must be proficient at building internal and external relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be highly organized and able to prioritize.
- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience with Encompass preferred.
- Must be proficient with Excel.
Salary Range:
$48,416.00 - $79,541.75Individual base pay may vary on additional factors such as the candidate’s experience, job-related skills, relevant education, geographic location, and other specific business and organizational needs.
